Ahmedabad, July 28 (NationPress) Following the Supreme Court's refusal to grant an interim stay on the draft electoral rolls published by the Election Commission of India (ECI) after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the election-bound state of Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a firm stance against opposition parties on Monday, accusing them of deceiving the public for political advantage.
In response to the court's ruling, BJP Spokesperson Rohan Gupta stated to IANS, "The Supreme Court has provided a robust rebuttal to the opposition parties engaging in erroneous politics surrounding SIR. Out of 7.89 crore voters in Bihar, forms from 7.24 crore have already been submitted. Isn't this a remarkable accomplishment? Isn't this a triumph for our democratic framework?"
He commended the Election Commission, describing it as a reliable and effective institution.
"The Election Commission has performed its duties diligently as a responsible constitutional entity. All parties were consulted throughout this process. The opposition has now been fully exposed for misleading the public," Gupta remarked.
Addressing concerns about missing names, he added, "The names of the remaining 65 lakh voters have been compiled and shared with the opposition. They have been allotted one month to raise any issues. If a name has been incorrectly excluded or a form wasn’t submitted, it can be rectified. This is a transparent procedure."
Gupta further questioned the rationale behind the opposition's protests.
"The draft list is already available. The opposition has access to the list of 65 lakh names. So, on what basis are they continuing their political onslaught? How long will they persist in questioning constitutional institutions?"
He underscored the necessity for political accountability.
"The opposition must recognize that undermining the integrity of institutions like the Election Commission, which enjoys global respect, cannot serve as a foundation for political survival. They should fulfill their democratic responsibilities instead of casting unfounded doubts."
Challenging the opposition, Gupta declared, "I dare them to provide evidence—just one document—that demonstrates any misconduct in the SIR process. If there is a voter whose name was unjustly removed, let that name be presented. This is merely a draft list. Anyone mistakenly omitted will be included in the final rolls."
The BJP leader urged opposition parties to cease their political maneuvers regarding the issue and to offer an apology.
"Now that the Supreme Court has clarified its position, I urge the opposition to stop politicizing this matter and apologize to the public for misleading them. It's time to concentrate on fortifying our democracy, not undermining it," he stated.
