Security Forces Detain Individual in Kulgam, J&K; Weapons Seized

Srinagar, Jan 9 (NationPress) Security forces confirmed on Thursday that during a coordinated operation, one individual was apprehended with arms and ammunition in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday, with significant war-like materials retrieved from him, according to officials.

The Chinar Corps of the Army, based in Srinagar, shared on X, “On January 8, 2025, acting on specific intelligence, a joint operation was initiated by the Indian Army and Police in Thokarpura mohallah, Qaimoh, Kulgam. During the search, one suspicious individual was detained, and the recovery included 01 AK Rifle, 04 AK Magazines, 120 AK Rounds, 02 Hand Grenades, and other military-grade supplies.”

Officials stated that further investigations by the police are currently underway.

In the past two years, security forces have also seized properties linked to terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), as well as drug traffickers throughout Kashmir.

In response to reports indicating that terrorists are poised to infiltrate from the Pakistan side of the border, police and security forces have maintained a heightened state of alert in both border areas and the interior regions.

Intelligence agencies suspect that following the peaceful and widely participative Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in J&K, the handlers of terrorism in Pakistan have become frustrated and have instructed terrorists to make a final attempt to revive terrorism in the union territory. This was highlighted by an incident on October 20 of the previous year, when two terrorists, including a foreign mercenary and a local operative, opened fire at a workers' camp in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district, resulting in the deaths of seven civilians, including six non-local workers from an infrastructure development firm and a local doctor.

On October 24, 2024, an army vehicle was ambushed by terrorists in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg, claiming the lives of three soldiers and two civilian porters. Additionally, on November 2, 2024, a grenade attack occurred at the bustling Sunday Market near the tourist reception center (TRC) in Srinagar, which led to the death of a 42-year-old mother of three and injured nine other civilians.
