Security Heightened Along Tripura Borders Amid Bangladeshi Political March

Agartala, Dec 11 (NationPress) In light of the reported political march by Bangladeshi parties towards the Indian borders close to Agartala, officials have announced that security measures along the Tripura frontiers have been substantially strengthened.
West Tripura district Superintendent of Police, Kiran Kumar, stated that the security along the India-Bangladesh border has been reinforced due to various factors.
"A two-day plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) is scheduled to take place in Agartala on December 20-21. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with Governors and Chief Ministers from all eight northeastern states, will be present at the meeting," he informed the media.
The NEC gathering is one of the factors leading to the escalated security along the border and other sensitive areas, the SP noted.
Following the unrest in Bangladesh that began a few months ago, the BSF has heightened its surveillance along the entire border, the district police chief disclosed.
There has been a visible uptick in security presence near the Agartala-Akhaura (Bangladesh) Integrated Check Post (ICP), which is the second-largest trading point along the India-Bangladesh border after the Petrapole-Benapole ICP in West Bengal.
Kumar mentioned that he has been informed that Bangladeshi security forces have halted the march of Indian border-bound parties from their country.
According to reports from Bangladeshi media, leaders and members of three affiliate organizations of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) - the Jubo Dal, Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal, and Swecchasebak Dal - commenced a long march towards Agartala from Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
The long march has reportedly been organized as a protest against the incident that occurred on December 2 at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission (AHC) in Agartala, which involved alleged desecration of the neighboring country's national flag.
Following the security breach at the Bangladesh AHC office in Agartala on December 2, the mission suspended all visa and consular services indefinitely from the following day.
This security breach reportedly occurred during a protest by an organization against the atrocities on the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
In response to the incident, West Tripura District Superintendent of Police suspended three Sub-Inspectors - Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain - and withdrew Assistant Commandant (a DSP rank officer) Kanti Nath Ghosh from his position due to their negligence during the protests on December 2 against the atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh.
The Tripura government has also initiated an inquiry into the December 2 incident, which will be conducted by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Southern Range.
In light of the ongoing atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and the arrest of ISKCON preacher Chinmoy Krishna Das, various organizations have been conducting a series of protests, demonstrations, and rallies across different states in the northeast region almost daily.
