Chennai, Sep 5 (NationPress) Former AIADMK minister and current MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan on Friday directly confronted party General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, insisting that those estranged leaders who left the party should be reinstated without any conditions. Issuing an ultimatum, Sengottaiyan cautioned that if this request is overlooked, he and his supporters will take the initiative towards reconciliation within ten days.

Speaking to the media at the AIADMK’s district office in Gobichettipalayam, Sengottaiyan expressed deep emotions, reflecting on his dedication to maintaining party unity after the passing of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

“Following Amma’s passing, I was given two chances to lead. I prioritized the party's integrity over my own interests to prevent the AIADMK from breaking apart. It was V.K. Sasikala who suggested Edappadi Palaniswami as the candidate for Chief Minister,” he stated.

The senior party figure indicated that many workers believe those who departed the party for various reasons should be welcomed back.

“This issue transcends individual concerns; it’s about the survival of our movement. We must practice forgiveness, as MGR taught us. Only by embracing those who have left can we hope to achieve victory again,” he emphasized.

Sengottaiyan disclosed that he had previously approached Palaniswami, along with senior leaders Natham Viswanathan, Velumani, Thangamani, Anbazhagan, and C.V. Shanmugam, to advocate for reconciliation. However, Palaniswami reportedly dismissed the suggestion.

“The sentiments of our cadres are crucial. If the General Secretary persists in his resistance, we will take action independently,” Sengottaiyan warned.

Additionally, he acknowledged the ongoing tensions between himself and Palaniswami, asserting that his stance was motivated purely by the party's welfare.

“People expect us to rise above personal disputes. The strength of the AIADMK is rooted in unity. Within ten days, we must start efforts to bring back those who have left; otherwise, we will act on our own,” he declared.

This outburst has sparked new tensions within the AIADMK, which is currently facing internal divisions and pressure from expelled leaders seeking to return.

Analysts believe Sengottaiyan’s ultimatum may exacerbate the existing leadership conflicts as the party prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.
