Mumbai, March 25 (NationPress) Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has responded to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra's controversial comments, asserting that the comedian's remarks were made after taking a supari (contract), emphasizing that every action has a reaction.

Breaking his silence late Monday night, Deputy CM Shinde stated he refrains from reacting to accusations, preferring to respond through his actions.

While not directly mentioning Kamra, Shinde remarked, “This individual made a statement after taking a supari... There is freedom of expression, which can be leveraged for satire. However, this crosses the line into adultery and is made after taking a supari. I chose not to respond. Yet, my party members have sentiments. This same person has previously made remarks about the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Arnab Goswami, and various industrialists. These accusations arise from taking a supari. Therefore, I opted not to react. I am committed to my duties.”

“I don’t engage with allegations. Since the formation of the government three years ago, accusations have been frequent. I’ve always maintained that I would respond to allegations through my work. If we start responding to accusations with counter-accusations, we lose focus. Our response has been through work, which is why we were re-elected, securing 60 out of 80 seats, while Thackeray's Shiv Sena only managed 20,” Shinde stated after his party criticized Kamra and demanded an unconditional apology.

When asked about the vandalism at the studio by Shiv Sena activists, Shinde replied, “I do not condone vandalism. We should also consider how low the other party stoops while making accusations. Action has a reaction. I am sensitive and capable of enduring much. I maintain a calm demeanor, focusing on my work and delivering justice to the people. This approach has led to significant achievements.”

Earlier, Shiv Sena condemned the “distasteful and defamatory” remarks made by Kamra during his performance at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai. “His intentional attempt to ridicule Deputy CM Shinde and distort the state's political reality for his propaganda is an orchestrated attack on leadership. He misuses the fundamental right to free speech, cloaking his derogatory remarks in comedy to harm individuals and disseminate politically motivated misinformation,” Shiv Sena stated in a release.

The Shiv Sena further declared that it would not tolerate any attempts to insult or defame leadership working tirelessly for the people of Maharashtra. “We demand that Kunal Kamra issue an unconditional apology for his remarks against Eknath Shinde and cease to use comedy as a weapon for spreading hatred and misinformation,” the statement said.

Kamra has a notorious history of controversial and offensive behaviour, indicating that this incident is not isolated. He has consistently shown disrespect towards institutions, individuals, and religious sentiments under the guise of satire, as stated by Shiv Sena in a release.
