Mumbai, March 25 (NationPress) The Bollywood actress and Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut, has responded to the ongoing controversy involving comedian Kunal Kamra and his comments regarding the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde.
During her media interaction at the Old Parliament House, she recounted how Kamra had mocked the demolition of part of her residence in Mumbai.
She stated, “The manner in which he ridiculed me and the illegal incident I faced was inappropriate. I don't want to link that incident to this one. A person in power, such as Shinde ji, deserves respect. Making fun of him under the guise of comedy is an insult. Shinde ji has worked his way up from being a rickshaw driver to his current position.”
Continuing her critique, she questioned, “And, who are these individuals? What credentials do they hold? Those who have achieved nothing in life? If they consider themselves writers, they should contribute to literature instead. In our films, there is a craft to comedy writing, but abusing or mocking individuals, especially vulnerable groups, is unacceptable.”
She expressed her concerns, asking, “Where is our society heading? What is this influencer culture promoting for mere minutes of fame? We need to contemplate this.”
“Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has also emphasized the need for accountability in our statements and their potential consequences,” she added.
Following the circulation of Kamra's video on social media, officials visited the Habitat venue where it was filmed and dismantled an unlawful structure there.
Ranaut insisted that the demolition at Habitat should not be conflated with the demolition of her Mumbai residence, as they are distinct incidents.
