Mumbai, March 26 (NationPress) The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) expressed on Thursday that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ignited a fervent discussion following his recent statements in the Legislative Council, where he claimed that orders from the Speaker or Chairperson are not considered "final" or "divine words (Brahmavakya)."

They criticized this viewpoint as a matter of "political convenience," highlighting inconsistencies in the government's earlier declarations.

The editorial in the Uddhav Thackeray camp's publication, 'Saamana', noted that the uproar originates from a dispute in Satara involving the BJP and the Shinde-led faction of Shiv Sena concerning the Zilla Parishad presidency. During this event, law enforcement allegedly favored the BJP, resulting in a confrontation involving Minister Shambhuraj Desai. In turn, Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, who recently joined the Shinde group, ordered the suspension of Satara Superintendent of Police, Tushar Doshi. However, Fadnavis declined to enact the suspension, asserting that the executive branch has the ultimate authority and that the chair's directives do not hold absolute weight.

Targeting CM Fadnavis, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena insisted that if the Chair's orders are not deemed "Brahmavakya," then the Chief Minister should promptly announce that the January 10, 2024, decision made by the Assembly Speaker regarding MLA disqualification is also not "Brahmavakya." In a democratic society, no decision from any individual or position is beyond scrutiny; it is subject to judicial examination. The only true "Brahmavakya" is the Constitution.

“This inconsistency brings to mind the events of January 10, 2024. On that day, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar dismissed the disqualification petitions submitted by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena. He opted not to disqualify Eknath Shinde and 15 others who had violated the 10th Schedule of the Constitution through blatant defection. Furthermore, he performed the 'feat' of recognizing the Shinde faction as the 'real Shiv Sena',” the editorial stated.

It continued, “At that point, Fadnavis and the Shinde group accepted that ruling as 'Brahmavakya'. They celebrated it as a 'legally sound' and 'historic' triumph for truth. No one mentioned the authority of the Executive or claimed the ruling wasn't final at that time.”

The Thackeray faction contended that if orders from the Chair are not final today, then Fadnavis should immediately assert that the January 10 ruling on MLA disqualification was also not a final 'Brahmavakya.

“If Fadnavis is genuine, he must acknowledge that the January 10 decision is equally subject to review,” they stated, reiterating that in a democracy, no single individual's ruling is absolute. "The only authentic 'Brahmavakya' is the Constitution," the editorial concluded.
