Vijayapura (Karnataka), May 23 (NationPress) Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar vehemently criticized allegations claiming he orchestrated the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on institutions owned by Home Minister G. Parameshwara, branding Union Minister and JD-S leader H.D. Kumaraswamy as “another name for lies”.
While addressing media inquiries in Kolhar, located in Vijayapura district, Shivakumar responded to Kumaraswamy's assertion that he had leaked details regarding the gold smuggling case involving actress Ranya Rao, stating: “Kumaraswamy is mentally unstable. He must be suffering from psychological issues. He has lost his mind.”
Regarding Kumaraswamy’s ongoing criticism concerning the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South, he questioned: “Why has Kumaraswamy come to Ramanagara district to engage in politics? Why didn’t he remain in Hassan? First, he should remove his own name, H.D. Kumaraswamy, which incorporates both his hometown and his father’s name. Let him change that first.”
The initial 'H' denotes Haradanahalli, and 'D' signifies Deve Gowda, with Haradanahalli situated in the Hassan district.
Kumaraswamy, originally from Hassan, has long represented the Ramanagara Assembly seat, with his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy recently losing to a Congress candidate in the last assembly election from Ramanagara.
Shivakumar elaborated: “We are from the Bengaluru district. Each region possesses its own history. Why was Madras renamed Chennai? Gulbarga was renamed Kalaburagi. We, too, have our aspirations. Why does that disturb him (Kumaraswamy)?”
In addressing claims that the name change was motivated by real estate interests, he stated: “Yes, we seek development in our village. Everyone deserves employment. The value of property for our people should increase. Every farmer should reap benefits. We want to attract investments from both within and outside the state. Our focus is on development.”
“The parliamentary constituency was previously known as Kanakapura. Later, it was renamed Bengaluru Rural. Why was that done? We are not altering the name of Ramanagara itself. Ramanagara will continue as the district headquarters. We are merely changing the name of the district,”
he added.
When queried about reports connecting him, his brother D.K. Suresh, and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to the National Herald case, Shivakumar remarked: “It is a newspaper operated by our party. Both Suresh and I have donated Rs 25 lakh to it. We have also contributed funds from our trust.”
On whether the donation could bring about problems, he replied: “We contributed the funds in a dignified manner, from our hard-earned wealth. We have not donated any ill-gotten money.”
