Lucknow, Feb 18 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav stated on Tuesday that the Uttar Pradesh government has misappropriated public funds and should step down.

Criticizing the administration, the SP leader emphasized that the government failed to provide adequate arrangements for the devotees, which led to the unfortunate incident.

He further accused the government of failing to disclose the number of fatalities, their identities, and financial support for the bereaved families.

Yadav also claimed that the government misrepresented the significance of the religious event, asserting that this event occurs every 144 years and is not documented in any religious texts.

In related news, SP MLA Sangram Yadav remarked that Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel should express condolences to the families of the victims of the stampede.

Sangram noted that the Governor is set to address the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, and both the SP and other opposition parties are urging her to convey condolences to the families affected by the stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Sangram criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for transforming the Kumbh Mela into a VIP 'mela'.

Despite Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's assurances of world-class arrangements for the Kumbh Mela, Sangram contended that adequate measures were not implemented.

He also alleged that due to poor crowd management and insufficient arrangements, numerous devotees had to return home without experiencing a holy dip at the Prayagraj Sangam.

Prior to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly's Budget Session, SP leaders protested outside the House, demanding that the state government disclose the number of casualties from the stampede.

At least 30 individuals lost their lives and over 60 were injured during the stampede at Prayagraj amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela on Mauni Amavasya.
