Itawa, Jan 29 (NationPress) Shivpal Singh Yadav, a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party, voiced profound sadness over the unfortunate stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which resulted in numerous fatalities. He urged the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to allocate at least ₹1 crore in compensation to the bereaved families.

In his address to the media, Shivpal Yadav criticized the state government's preparations for the event, stating, "The government asserted that arrangements for the Maha Kumbh had been underway for six months, claiming they were preparing on an international scale, yet the results indicate a failure to execute effectively."

He emphasized that both the victims and the families of the deceased deserve financial support, ensuring that medical care for the injured is of the highest quality.

"The government is accountable. Any negligence should not merely lead to resignations but must also prompt a demand for accountability. Initially, those responsible in the government should be held accountable, and a thorough investigation must ensue," stated the Samajwadi Party leader.

Shivpal Yadav insisted that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and others responsible for the Maha Kumbh arrangements need to accept their roles in the tragedy.

"If they possess even a shred of morality, they ought to grant at least ₹1 crore to every family mourning a loss. During our administration, when we allocated ₹400 or ₹600 crore, the system functioned much more efficiently, with no significant issues. However, now, with an expenditure of ₹11,000 crore, we witness such chaos," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the stampede and offered his condolences to the affected families. In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi shared his heartfelt sympathies with the devotees who have lost loved ones and wished for a swift recovery for the injured.

He also noted that the local administration is diligently working to support the victims and mentioned that he has been in ongoing communication with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding the developments.
