New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav on Monday made shocking allegations regarding the Maha Kumbh stampede, asserting that the actual number of fatalities greatly surpasses the official count of 30.
He alleged that thousands of individuals lost their lives during the Amrit Snan on the significant occasion of Mauni Amavasya and accused the Yogi Adityanath government of intentionally downplaying the tragedy.
While addressing reporters outside Parliament, the SP legislator made several grave accusations against the state administration, claiming that many corpses were either buried along the riverbanks or disposed of into the Ganga to conceal the true scale of the disaster.
He emphasized that the real death toll is significantly higher than reported, referencing testimonies from numerous witnesses.
"Maha Kumbh mein hazaron log mare gaye, kuch Ganga mein baha diye gaye aur kuch daba diye gaye" (Thousands of lives were lost, many of the deceased were submerged in the river while others were interred on the banks), he stated, challenging the official death toll of 30.
Moreover, he alleged that the Kumbh administration and officials had received explicit instructions from the Chief Minister to keep the number of fatalities below 30. This heartless directive is causing immense suffering for many families, he added.
"Families are being compelled to retrieve the bodies of their loved ones without conducting post-mortems, as this would increase the death toll figures. They are being offered between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 in cash to facilitate this," he revealed in another set of explosive claims.
Ram Gopal Yadav also stated that the stampede resulted from severe administrative negligence under the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
He asserted that during the auspicious Mauni Amavasya snan, bridges were closed to the general public, allowing access only to Akharas and VIPs, which contributed to the tragic event.
He criticized the state government, accusing it of attempting to obscure the reality of the tragedy's magnitude.
