New Delhi, Jan 29 (NationPress) In the aftermath of the devastating stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj early Wednesday morning, which resulted in numerous critical injuries and distress among pilgrims, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his sorrow regarding the incident and criticized the preparations, labeling them as "half-baked".
Kharge conveyed his condolences in a post on X, stating, "The news of the stampede at Tirthraj Sangam during the Maha Kumbh, where lives were lost and many were injured, is profoundly heartbreaking. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those affected, and we wish for a swift recovery for the injured."
He also condemned the arrangements, remarking, "The inadequate preparations, along with VIP movement and a focus on self-promotion rather than effective management and oversight, are to blame for this tragedy. It is unacceptable given the expenditure of thousands of crores of rupees."
Kharge urged both the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments to rectify the arrangements, asserting, "With several significant royal baths still forthcoming, it is imperative for both governments to take immediate action to enhance arrangements and prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future."
