He emphasized the urgent need for reforms to diminish the VIP culture and enhance the arrangements for ordinary devotees.

Using the social media platform X, LoP Rahul Gandhi expressed his sorrow and concern regarding the incident, stating, “The reports of multiple fatalities and many injuries due to the stampede at Prayagraj Maha Kumbh are profoundly tragic. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families affected and wish for a swift recovery for the injured.”

He further highlighted the necessity for improved management at large-scale religious events, attributing the tragedy to mismanagement and the excessive focus on VIP movements.

He stated, “Mismanagement, mismanagement, and the administration's undue emphasis on VIP movement over the needs of regular devotees have led to this unfortunate event.”

LoP Rahul Gandhi noted that while the stampede had already occurred, there was still significant time remaining for more critical bathing rituals, known as Maha Snans, at the Maha Kumbh.

He urged the government to take immediate action to avert future incidents, stating, “There is still ample time left for the Maha Kumbh, with many more Maha Snans scheduled. The government must enhance the system to prevent a tragedy like today’s from recurring.”

“The VIP culture must be curtailed, and the government should implement better arrangements to cater to the demands of ordinary devotees,” he emphasized.

He also called on Congress workers and leaders to support the affected families, offering assistance and solidarity during this tragic period.

As per officials, a significant number of pilgrims gathered for a holy bath on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, which resulted in a stampede, injuring many, some of whom were critically hurt.
