Bengaluru, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP expressed its sorrow on Wednesday regarding the unfortunate stampede that caused minor injuries to approximately 40 to 50 devotees at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured.

State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra reacted to the incident, stating, "This morning's tragic news of a stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, despite the precautionary measures implemented by the Uttar Pradesh government, has resulted in many devotees sustaining minor injuries."

"Reports suggest that around 40 to 50 devotees were injured, and I wish them a speedy recovery. Our Prime Minister has also communicated with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister to evaluate the situation, and both the Central and state governments will enhance safety measures," he added.

Vijayendra continued, "After 144 years, the revered Maha Kumbh Mela is taking place in Prayagraj, attracting millions of devotees to this significant spiritual event. I sincerely pray that all participants in the pilgrimage stay safe and that the event proceeds without any disruptions, allowing them to receive divine blessings."

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara mentioned on Wednesday that he had not received any reports of devotees from the state being injured in the Maha Kumbh Mela.

A stampede-like scenario unfolded at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj early Wednesday before the 'Amrit Snan' on 'Mauni Amavasya'.

Officials stated that a significant number of pilgrims arrived for a holy bath on Mauni Amavasya, which contributed to the stampede-like situation, resulting in injuries.

At least 30 women are reported injured and are currently receiving treatment at the central hospital set up in the Mela area.

The Uttar Pradesh government anticipated 10 crore pilgrims on that particular day and had intensified security in preparation for the 'Amrit Snan'.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh assured on Wednesday that the situation at the Maha Kumbh was now stabilized, although some devotees had suffered critical injuries during the stampede.

He also encouraged people to disregard rumors.

He stated that around 8 to 10 crore devotees were present in Prayagraj, leading to continuous pressure due to the movement of devotees towards the 'Sangam Nose'.

As of 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, approximately three crore people had taken a holy dip in the Maha Kumbh.

The 'Sangam Nose' is a triangular landmass situated between the Ganga River to the north and the Yamuna River to the south, before they converge.

The 'Amrit Snan' on Mauni Amavasya holds tremendous spiritual importance, particularly this year due to the rare 'Triveni Yog' celestial alignment, which occurs only once every 144 years.

This rare alignment has heightened the fervor and devotion of the millions who gathered for the event.

Authorities have since reinforced security measures and advised devotees to remain vigilant.
