Bengaluru, July 2 (NationPress) In response to calls from certain Congress MLAs for a shift in leadership within Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared on Wednesday that he intends to fulfill a complete five-year term.
Speaking to journalists at Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapura district prior to the cabinet meeting, Siddaramaiah affirmed when questioned about his commitment to the full term, "Absolutely, I will serve as Chief Minister for the entire five years."
He added, "Why does the media cast doubts? It is typically the BJP and JD(S) that propose such changes. Statements from BJP leaders B. Y. Vijayendra and R. Ashoka are inconsequential. It's vital for the media to check the facts."
"In a democracy, every MLA from the ruling party has the right to aspire to be a minister. Although we have 142 MLAs, only 34 are in the cabinet. According to constitutional rules, a maximum of 15 percent of total MLAs can hold ministerial positions," he explained.
"Our administration is cohesive. I've addressed this in Mysuru. Our government is robust, and we will complete our five-year term," Siddaramaiah asserted.
Claiming that the BJP and JD(S) are merely "daydreaming" about the downfall of the Congress-led government in Karnataka, Siddaramaiah stated: "They accomplished nothing during their time in power. Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar rightly challenged them for proof of their developmental achievements."
"They failed to make significant improvements in sectors like irrigation, public works, education, and health. Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy was the Chief Minister during the coalition government, and the BJP governed for four years in Karnataka. What have they achieved? They are simply misleading the public," Siddaramaiah noted.
Referring to the attendance at a recent event celebrating two years in power, he said, "Approximately three lakh people attended in Hospet despite heavy rainfall to commemorate the milestone. Do such crowds gather without a reason?"
Addressing concerns about the alleged mishandling of a survey on internal reservations for oppressed communities, Siddaramaiah remarked, "There are 101 sub-castes in Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. A comprehensive door-to-door survey is in progress, and individuals can also submit information online. However, in urban areas like Bengaluru, social stigma appears to hinder people from identifying as belonging to these categories, hence the online option."
Concerning the special cabinet session at Nandi Hills, Siddaramaiah stated, "Today’s meeting centers on the Bengaluru Revenue Division. Previous cabinet meetings were conducted for the Belagavi and Mysuru revenue divisions, with another planned for the Bijapur Revenue Division soon."
