Bengaluru, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has denounced the tragic murder of a Class 10 student at the hands of a group of minors, urging the community to uphold peace and advising parents to vigilantly oversee their children's actions.
He expressed concern over any potential exploitation of this incident or attempts to disturb public order.
Shivamogga faced unrest on Tuesday following the death of a Class 10 student who was killed while trying to defend his friend from an attack by local minors. The family of the deceased has indicated they will take severe measures if justice is not served against the offenders.
Sanket, aged 15, lost his life while attempting to shield his friend Girish from a group assault on the outskirts of Shivamogga on Monday night, which has resulted in increased tensions in the region.
Authorities have apprehended seven boys linked to this incident. The case has reportedly taken on a communal aspect, as the accused are from a different community.
Siddaramaiah stated, "I unequivocally condemn the heinous attack and murder of a school student near Uragadur in Shivamogga. I urge the public to maintain calm and restraint and refrain from falling for any provocations. We will take stringent action against anyone attempting to exploit this situation and disturb public order."
Alongside supporting the grieving family, we will ensure that all involved parties face the full extent of the law, striving to deliver justice. It is unfortunate that minors, who should be concentrating on their education and future, have instead become entangled in such unlawful behaviors, remarked CM Siddaramaiah.
"Regardless of the motive or the identity of those involved, I have directed the police to deal with the accused rigorously under the law. We will take decisive measures to deter similar incidents in the future," assured CM Siddaramaiah.
The rise of hatred, violence, and criminal behavior at such a young age poses significant risks. If individuals with such tendencies become entrenched in harmful habits, the situation could escalate, he noted.
"Parents must vigilantly oversee their children’s activities and guide them should they stray. School authorities should ensure that no illegal activities occur near school premises and seek police support if needed," he appealed.
To assist the bereaved family, the government will provide a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the parents of the deceased student. All individuals involved have been apprehended, and I assure the family that a thorough investigation will be conducted, ensuring the maximum possible punishment," he concluded.
