In a conversation with IANS, Ashok Mittal stated, “This is an important moment for democracy as we select our next Vice President. It showcases the robustness of our Constitution, where we, as elected officials, have the authority to vote and influence the nation's leadership. Every MP will exercise their democratic rights today.”
Expressing his perspective on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Biju Janata Dal's (BJD) choice to abstain from voting, Mittal shared, “Democracy grants us the right to participate in government formation. While I respect the decisions made by BRS and BJD, personally, I believe they should have utilized their voting rights, irrespective of their preferred candidate.”
Mittal also addressed inquiries regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing trip to Malaysia during this pivotal political event, stating, “We are no longer part of the INDIA bloc, so I am not familiar with their internal strategies. Rahul Gandhi is entitled to his own priorities, and I prefer not to comment on his choices.”
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote for the Vice-Presidential election at the New Parliament Building. Following his vote, PM Modi shared on social media platform X: “Voted in the 2025 Vice Presidential election.”
