Key Takeaways
Ahmedabad, April 19 (NationPress) In response to the murder of a 30-year-old man in Dhandhuka town within Ahmedabad district, authorities have established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly investigate the case. This move comes as police expand their efforts following unrest that erupted due to this tragic incident.
Ahmedabad Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Prakash Jat confirmed the formation of the SIT, which will be led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) to ensure a comprehensive and unbiased investigation.
The SIT includes DySP Prakash Prajapati, Inspectors Raghu Karmatiya and Karan Vihol, along with Sub-Inspector S.H. Zala.
“This team will oversee daily investigative progress and provide weekly updates. The goal of the SIT is to conduct an impeccable investigation and deliver timely justice to the victim,” stated Jat in an interview with IANS.
Authorities have apprehended the primary suspects, identified as Samir and Rizwan, and have initiated a murder case against them.
In addition, a separate case has been filed against approximately 125 unidentified individuals for charges including rioting, arson, and vandalism, with at least 25 people detained in relation to the disorder.
The incident reportedly began when a motorcycle operated by Samir, who was accompanied by his wife, collided with the bike of a local youth from the Bharwad community.
During the ensuing altercation, Rizwan allegedly assaulted Dharmesh Gamara with a knife, resulting in critical injuries that ultimately led to his death from excessive blood loss.
This killing sparked significant unrest, with mobs causing damage to shops, vehicles, and various properties.
In response, police have deployed around 200 personnel to sensitive areas and conducted overnight combing operations, which included house-to-house searches.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the violence, while stringent checks have been implemented at all entry and exit points.
Cyber teams are also monitoring social media to prevent the spread of misinformation. SP Jat emphasized that the incident does not stem from any communal or social tensions.
“This was not a social or communal conflict; it was a personal dispute between two individuals over a minor issue,” he clarified.
He added that the situation has stabilized and normalcy is being restored.
The last rites of Dharmesh Gamara were conducted under strict security measures, with a significant police presence in the area.
Authorities have urged the public to stay calm and disregard rumors, assuring that action will be taken against all those implicated in the crime and the subsequent violence.
