Social Exclusion of Dalit Family in Siddaramaiah's Constituency

Mysuru, Jan 3 (NationPress) A Dalit family residing in Srinivasapura village, which is part of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's Varuna Assembly constituency, has come under social exclusion by village leaders due to their disobedience of a panchayat directive.

This village, situated close to Siddaramanahundi, the birthplace of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has become a focal point of controversy.

The affected family reported that village leaders Chikkandaiah, Basavaiah, Mota Mahadevaiah, and former gram panchayat member Mahadevaiah issued a directive to exclude them.

As per the family's account, the boycott was enacted against Suresh's family following their refusal to pay a fine of Rs 15,000 levied by the panchayat.

They explained that a dispute arose between Pramod and Suresh, leading the village elders to convene a meeting.

During this conflict, Pramod's associates allegedly invaded Suresh's residence, causing considerable destruction. Consequently, the village leaders held another meeting to discuss the incident and imposed fines on both parties. Pramod was fined Rs 25,000, while Suresh was fined Rs 15,000.

Despite this, Suresh vehemently disagreed with the ruling and refused to pay the fine.

Infuriated by his noncompliance, the village leaders asserted that he had disrespected them and decreed that no family in the village should engage with Suresh's family until the fine was settled.

As a consequence, Suresh and his mother, Mahadevamma, find themselves socially isolated, with villagers deliberately avoiding them. They have been excluded from community events, including festivals, celebrations, and funerals. Moreover, village leaders have issued a stern warning that anyone who breaks this decree and interacts with the ostracized family will incur a fine of Rs 5,000.

Suresh and Mahadevamma have filed complaints regarding this situation with the District Commissioner, Tehsildar, and the Police Department, but justice remains elusive.
