Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Dibrugarh, April 6 (NationPress) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal vehemently criticized the Congress party on Monday, labeling their accusations regarding foreign connections and assets of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family as “unfounded” and indicative of the party’s “desperation.” He expressed strong belief that the BJP will triumph in the state.
In an interview with IANS in Dibrugarh, Sonowal paid homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, recognizing his pivotal role as a founding member of the BJP and attributing the party's growth to its foundational ideologies.
“Today, I pay my respects to our esteemed leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a cornerstone of the BJP. The party's principles and vision have significantly contributed to its expansion and service to the nation,” Sonowal remarked.
Regarding the political climate in Assam, the Union Minister expressed unwavering confidence in the BJP’s potential while acknowledging that the electoral process is ongoing.
“It is evident that victory is within reach in Assam. However, we must wait; voting and counting are still to be completed in the electoral process,” he noted.
Addressing recent claims made by Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, Sonowal rejected the assertions concerning the Chief Minister’s family as baseless.
“These allegations are without merit; this is the lowest form of political maneuvering by Congress, showcasing their frustration. They are aware of their dwindling influence,” he stated to IANS.
These comments arise amidst escalating tensions between the BJP and Congress in Assam, where opposition figures have raised concerns about alleged foreign ties and assets of the Chief Minister’s family, which Sarma and his wife have categorically denied.
In response to remarks made by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Sonowal emphasized national security, asserting, “Pakistan is our adversary. We will not stand for this under any circumstances.”
The Union Minister’s statements indicate a deepening political confrontation in Assam, with both parties exchanging sharp accusations as critical electoral events approach, while BJP leadership remains optimistic about holding their ground in the state.
