New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) The Central government has officially appointed Advocate Narendra Mann as the Special Public Prosecutor for the proceedings related to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.

The Ministry of Home Affairs released a gazette notification on Wednesday regarding this appointment.

The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Adhijit Sinha, states that Mann's term is set for three years or until the trial concludes, whichever comes first.

“Under the authority granted by sub-section (1) of section 15 of the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008 (34 of 2008), in conjunction with sub-section (8) of section 18 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), the Central Government hereby appoints Narender Mann, Advocate, as Special Public Prosecutor to manage trial and related matters concerning NIA case RC-04/2009/NIA/DLI before the NIA Special Courts in Delhi and Appellate Courts, for three years from the notification date or until the trial concludes, whichever is sooner,” the notification elaborates.

This announcement coincides with the arrival of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key suspect in the Mumbai terror attack, in India.

Rana, aged 64, was extradited from the United States nearly 16 years after his initial arrest for his involvement in the 26/11 attacks.

According to sources, he is expected to arrive in Delhi and will likely be placed in a high-security section of Tihar jail.

Preparations for his custody have been completed, as indicated by sources.

On Wednesday evening, the Nayayik Abhiraksha Vahini of Delhi Police, tasked with transporting inmates, was instructed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to dispatch a prison van, accompanied by pilot escorts, to the airport on Thursday.

Additionally, the Delhi Police Special Cell has been put on alert, with SWAT commandos deployed at the airport, and security measures have been reinforced at the NIA headquarters in the national capital.
