The tragic event occurred at the Shila OP Picket under the jurisdiction of the Simaria police station, where the jawan was on duty.
As per reports, the incident unfolded around 10 p.m. on Tuesday when the soldier fatally shot himself with his service rifle, resulting in his immediate death.

The deceased has been named as Prahlad Kumar Singh, hailing from Mahtodih village in Deoghar district. He was a member of the 35th Battalion of the SSB and was currently assigned to the Shila Picket in Simaria.
Witnesses reported that the abrupt sound of gunfire disrupted the evening's tranquility. Fellow personnel who hurried to the scene discovered Prahlad lying in a pool of blood.
Due to the seriousness of the situation, both the Chatra Superintendent of Police and the SSB Commandant arrived at the site late that night to evaluate the circumstances. Police subsequently took the body into custody and transported it to Chatra Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Officials noted that the precise motive behind this drastic step remains unclear. Investigations are exploring all potential factors, including personal issues and mental health challenges.
Rohit Singh, a family member of the deceased, stated, "We received a call from the battalion notifying us that my brother had been shot, prompting us to rush to Chatra."
"I had just spoken to my brother the previous evening, and there were no signs of any distress during our conversation. Now, he has been martyred," he lamented.
Rohit also mentioned that a call from the SSB headquarters was received late on Tuesday, indicating that Prahlad had sustained a gunshot wound and urging them to respond immediately.
He further revealed that Prahlad had returned to duty only a month prior after a leave of absence. Their last conversation took place around 5 p.m. on the day of the incident, during which he expressed intentions to play cricket and later attend a prayer meeting.
Family members indicated that Prahlad joined the force in 2017 and got married in 2018. He leaves behind a wife and a young daughter.
Currently, the family awaits the results of the post-mortem examination. The incident has brought sadness to the community, with both residents and officials expressing shock over the untimely passing of the soldier.
