Chennai, Oct 7 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister and DMK leader M.K. Stalin is set to take part in an all-party protest organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Chennai on October 8. The demonstration aims to call for an end to what the organizers label as “genocide” in Gaza and urges the Union government to revoke all agreements with Israel.
The protest will take place near the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore at 10 a.m. and will be spearheaded by CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam. This event seeks to highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where, according to the organizers, over 66,000 Palestinians — including more than 20,000 children — have lost their lives since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023.
The CPI(M) reports that nearly two million Palestinians have been displaced, facing relentless air and missile strikes, acute shortages of food and medical supplies, and limited humanitarian access due to Israeli blockades.
“Hospitals, schools, and homes have been reduced to rubble; even journalists covering the crisis have been targeted,” the party stated.
The protest will also criticize the United States for its ongoing support of Israel, asserting that this has empowered the Israeli government to disregard international law and disrupt peace negotiations facilitated by mediators such as Qatar.
Organizers will advocate for an immediate ceasefire, restoration of humanitarian access to Gaza, and renewed international efforts for peace.
Leaders from various political parties are expected to address the assembly, including Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K. Selvaperunthagai, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) founder Thol. Thirumavalavan, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) general secretary K.A.M. Mohamed Abubacker, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) leader M.H. Jawahirullah, and Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi chief Tamimun Ansari.
With the DMK’s involvement, a substantial turnout is anticipated, sending a strong political message from Tamil Nadu, where parties have traditionally expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause and condemned perceived human rights violations in West Asia.
