Chennai, Oct 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, declared on Wednesday that the State Legislative Assembly is set to adopt a resolution on October 14, urging for a ceasefire in Gaza and imploring the Union government to intensify its efforts to halt the ongoing conflict. “This resolution will embody the feelings of the citizens of Tamil Nadu. I anticipate that all political factions will lend their support,” stated Stalin during a protest rally against the Gaza bombings, organized by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and attended by DMK allies in Chennai.

Stalin expressed that the relentless airstrikes by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), which breach international human rights laws and United Nations guidelines, have alarmed the global community. “There has been widespread condemnation of Israel’s mass killings,” he remarked at the demonstration held near Rajarathnam Stadium, Egmore.

Referencing casualty statistics, the Chief Minister noted that over 50,000 individuals have lost their lives in the ongoing conflict, including 11,000 women, 17,000 children, 175 journalists, and 125 UN personnel. “Approximately 26,000 children have been orphaned, and over 100,000 injured individuals are currently receiving treatment. A significant portion of Gaza is in ruins, yet its people persist in their resistance against the Israeli incursion,” he stated.

In light of a recent incident where 45 individuals awaiting food supplies were killed, Stalin remarked that such tragedies have profoundly affected the global conscience. “Volunteers from 47 countries who were bringing milk powder, food, and relief supplies were detained. Can we choose to remain passive observers without denouncing Israel’s actions, which are in violation of international law?” he questioned.

The Chief Minister called upon the central government to collaborate closely with international organizations to advocate for the cessation of hostilities and to guarantee humanitarian access. “World peace and human rights are universal. Human life is priceless. We hold the responsibility to safeguard it,” he asserted.

Stalin further urged for provisions of food and medical supplies to Gaza, the rehabilitation of displaced individuals, and the reconstruction of the affected area. “All detainees must be released,” he emphasized.

Notable leaders in attendance included Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Selvaperunthagai, CPI(M) state secretary P. Shanmugam, CPI(M) leaders K. Balakrishnan and U. Vasuki, CPI state secretary M. Veerapandian, and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi chief M.H. Jawahirullah.
