Kolkata, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police executed operations in the Murshidabad district on Thursday as part of an investigation linked to terrorism.
The operation targeted the home of Rafiqul Islam, who was absent from his residence in Hariharpara within the Murshidabad district.
An official stated that the STF has issued a summons to Islam, requiring him to appear at the STF office in Kolkata on January 27.
According to sources, the STF recently apprehended a young man, Minarul Sheikh, from the same area for his connections with radical underground groups.
Reports indicate that the call logs of Minarul Sheikh revealed extensive conversations with his neighbor, Rafiqul Islam, prompting officials to consider Rafiqul a person of interest as well.
Furthermore, the detained individual confessed that Rafiqul had accompanied him on trips to neighboring states, particularly Assam.
Recently, both state and central security and intelligence agencies have heightened surveillance in districts bordering Bangladesh, fearing that members of underground extremist factions are attempting to set up sleeper cells in West Bengal, leveraging the political instability in adjacent countries.
Intelligence reports have also raised alarms about outsiders taking up residence in villages close to the international border with Bangladesh, often renting local homes.
Landlords in these border villages have been advised to exercise caution when renting out rooms to unfamiliar individuals without verifying their backgrounds.
