Alappuzha, March 11 (NationPress) The seasoned CPI(M) politician G. Sudhakaran has ignited a new wave of political speculation in Kerala following the creation of his own WhatsApp media group on Wednesday, just a day ahead of his planned press conference at his home.

Attempts to reconcile him were unsuccessful, even as general secretary M.A. Baby and state secretary M.V. Govindan made their efforts. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, visiting the district for a bridge inauguration, also did not make an appearance at Sudhakaran’s residence.

Last week’s rumors suggesting that Sudhakaran might not renew his party membership have raised alarms within the CPI(M). Meanwhile, the Congress party remains in a wait-and-see mode.

Sudhakaran, having served four terms as a legislator and two as a state minister, is acknowledged as a prominent political figure from Alappuzha. His recent activities have sparked considerable discussions, particularly amid speculations that he may run as an independent candidate in the upcoming Assembly elections from Ambalappuzha.

Recently, he declared on Facebook that he would not be renewing his party membership, which he has held for over 50 years. This announcement has quickly become a hot topic of debate both within and outside the party.

On Wednesday, his launch of a WhatsApp media group is viewed as a strategy to engage directly with the public and media regarding his future political directions.

Reports indicate that when Alappuzha district secretary R. Naser reached out to him to ask for his membership renewal form, Sudhakaran firmly stated that he had no intention of completing it.

In his Facebook post, the former minister expressed his feelings of neglect within the party. He mentioned that after being shifted from the state committee back to the branch level, he had not received any communication from the district leadership. He claimed he felt overlooked during various public events.

Sudhakaran also took issue with comments attributed to CPI(M) state secretary Govindan, which he felt suggested he was no longer worthy of attention from the party. He described these remarks as inappropriate, noting that no one present corrected them, despite being made in a seemingly light-hearted context.

Additionally, he mentioned that he was not invited to the party’s event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Indian Emergency.

As Sudhakaran prepares to speak to the media at his residence on Thursday, the unfolding developments are under close observation. Sources have indicated that the CPI(M) leadership is carefully evaluating the situation, while the Kerala Police’s Special Branch is also monitoring political visitors meeting with the veteran leader.

Political analysts suggest that Sudhakaran’s forthcoming decisions could significantly impact the politically charged Alappuzha region as Kerala approaches its next electoral cycle.
