Sukhbir Badal Proposes President's Police Medal for Life-Saving Officer

Chandigarh, Dec 23 (NationPress) Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday suggested that Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Jasbir Singh be awarded a President's Police medal for an act of outstanding bravery and selfless dedication while at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar on December 2, when an assassination attempt was made against him.
In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed, 'It was solely due to the blessings and grace of the almighty that ASI Jasbir Singh was present that fateful day.'
'The display of remarkable courage and unwavering commitment to his duty by Jasbir Singh, who risked his own life to protect the sanctity of Sikhism's most revered shrine, Shri Harmandar Sahib, and to preserve my life, was extraordinary,' he continued.
He remarked, 'The averting of what could have been a tragic outcome was nothing less than divine intervention, especially considering that those intent on disrupting the sanctity of this site and the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab appeared to be supported by powerful individuals in the state.'
SAD Lok Sabha MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal also joined in this matter, writing to Amit Shah, urging for a comprehensive judicial inquiry into the incident.
In addition to his recommendation for Jasbir Singh's bravery to be recognized nationally with the President's Medal, she criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his administration for 'providing inflammatory justifications for actions that amount to the assassination of political opponents.'
She highlighted that moments before the attempt on Sukhbir Singh Badal's life, senior police officers were engaged in discussions about controversial figures with criminal backgrounds.
In her statement, she asserted that the assassination attempt was not an isolated event nor an act by 'a lone wolf'.
It was a clearly orchestrated, premeditated act that is part of a larger conspiracy aimed at undermining and eliminating Sikh leadership, she added.
