Punjab Administration's Inaction: BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal Denounce Attack on Sukhbir Badal

New Delhi, Dec 4 (NationPress) A man was apprehended for attempting to shoot Sukhbir Singh Badal, leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), while he was engaged in penance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. In response, BJP spokesperson Tarun Chugh and SAD senior leader Sanjeev Talwar condemned the incident, citing it as indicative of the Punjab government's shortcomings.

The alarming event occurred while Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, was fulfilling his religious duties as mandated by the Sikh clergy. Dressed in blue 'sewadar' attire and wielding a spear, he was positioned at the entrance of the Golden Temple on Wednesday.

Accompanying him were SAD leaders Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, both participating in their religious obligations related to the same penance. A man brandished a firearm, attempting to shoot Badal but was subdued before he could approach the former Deputy Chief Minister.

The police swiftly detained the individual for his attempted attack on the SAD leader.

SAD Senior Vice President Sanjeev Talwar expressed his outrage in a video statement, denouncing the attack as a stark illustration of the declining law and order situation in Punjab.

He stressed that an assault on a high-profile leader like Badal, who is under 'Z Plus' security, underscores the profound security failures in the state.

“The law and order scenario in Punjab has significantly deteriorated. Daily murders and the escalating power of gangsters and extortionists have fostered a climate of fear among the populace,” he asserted.

Talwar accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration of transforming Punjab into a 'jungle state' rather than a thriving one.

The BJP also voiced its condemnation, with National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressing serious concern regarding the attack.

In statements to IANS, Chugh scrutinized the security dynamics in Punjab, noting that if a former Deputy Chief Minister with state protection could be targeted, it raises grave concerns for the safety of average citizens.

“This incident clearly illustrates the decline in law and order. CM Mann must clarify whether he has appropriately prioritized the situation in the state,” Chugh remarked.

Chugh further highlighted the increasing dominance of mafia groups in Punjab, accusing the AAP government of neglecting criminal activities.

“Mafia groups are extorting funds, granting interviews from prison, engaging in elections, and committing acts of violence. Targeted killings are on the rise. This lawlessness is the government's responsibility,” Chugh concluded.
