Their monthly stipend rises from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000. The move signals the government's intent to retain and motivate these workers, whose role in forest surveillance and awareness is difficult to replace with formal staffing.

Administrative upgrades for Bharari and Hatwar

Sukhu declared that Bharari sub-tehsil will be upgraded to a full tehsil — a change that brings administrative services closer to residents who currently travel further for revenue and land records work. In a parallel health announcement, two additional doctor posts will be created at the Primary Health Centre in Hatwar, addressing a staffing gap in rural medical infrastructure. A new veterinary dispensary will open in Tadaun gram panchayat, extending animal healthcare to a constituency where livestock farming remains central to rural livelihoods.

Higher education push: MBA, MCA, BBA, BCA in government colleges

The education announcements were the most sweeping. Government College Ghumarwin will add MBA, MCA, and MTA postgraduate programmes, while Government College Ghandawali will introduce BBA and BCA undergraduate courses. For students in Bilaspur district who currently commute long distances or forgo professional degrees altogether, these additions could reshape local educational access — provided faculty hiring and infrastructure follow through.

A school holiday tied to Independence Day

In an administrative note, Sukhu declared that 17 August 2026 will be a holiday for all government schools across the state. The rationale: schools are expected to host Independence Day functions on 15 August, and the compensatory day off on 17 August accounts for that additional working engagement. It is a logistical decision, but one that will be felt by students, teachers, and parents across Himachal Pradesh the very next week.
