New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) The Supreme Court is set to review a petition on Thursday from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which asserts that its recent simultaneous raid and search operations at the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) office and the home of co-founder Pratik Jain were impeded by the West Bengal government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to the causelist available on the apex court's website, a bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Sharma and Vipul M. Pancholi will deliberate on this matter on January 15.
In pursuit of immediate judicial remedy, the Central anti-money laundering agency claims that its officials encountered resistance during their operations, hindering their ability to perform their legal responsibilities.
The ED further contends that such interference by West Bengal authorities has jeopardized the integrity of its ongoing investigation.
Preemptively, the West Bengal government has filed a caveat with the apex court, seeking that no orders be made without considering its perspective. This move is designed to ensure that the Central agency does not receive interim relief without the state’s input.
On a related note, the Calcutta High Court addressed a petition accusing CM Mamata Banerjee of misusing her official capacity to obstruct the duties of Central agency officials.
Additionally, there are two counter-petitions: one from Pratik Jain and another from the Trinamool Congress.
The Trinamool alleges that the ED raid targeted documents related to its electoral strategy for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections, intending to hand over this information to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
