Kolkata, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, directed his criticism towards State Minister Aroop Biswas due to several spelling errors found in his handwritten resignation letter. This letter was submitted after the controversy surrounding the "GOAT India Tour" involving football legend Lionel Messi.
Adhikari also shared a picture of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s acceptance letter, pointing out what he called a construction error in the sentence.
In a mocking tone, the BJP leader tweeted, “Like teacher, like student!!! The people are calling for the removal of both the ‘acting minister and the foolish minister’ for this embarrassing episode in West Bengal!!!”
Continuing his jibe, Adhikari highlighted the spelling mistakes in the Bengali terms for “Sports Minister” included in Biswas’s resignation letter.
In the letter written in Bengali, Biswas expressed his intent to resign from his position as the state’s Sports Minister on Tuesday.
This document, which was made public, displayed misspellings of words such as ‘Kriramantri’ (Sports Minister) and ‘proriprekhite’ (in this context), incorrectly noted as ‘Kriyamantri’ and ‘Poriprekshite’.
Additionally, the term ‘Yuva Bharati Krirangan’ was misspelled as ‘Kriyanjan’. Adhikari took to social media to share the letter, marking the supposed mistakes in red ink while ridiculing Biswas.
Separately, he shared the Chief Minister’s acceptance letter, asserting that the phrase “offer to relief” should be corrected to “offering to be relieved” or “asking to be relieved”.
This incident has ignited a political uproar, yet there has been no comment from the Trinamool Congress leadership regarding the allegations of spelling and grammatical errors.
In the wake of the controversy surrounding Lionel Messi’s Goat India Tour in Kolkata on December 13, Mamata Banerjee accepted Biswas’s resignation request, temporarily relieving him of his duties as state Sports Minister.
The Chief Minister will oversee the sports portfolio herself, while Biswas will maintain his other responsibilities in youth affairs and power.
