SVAMITVA Initiative: Maharashtra Chief Minister and Cabinet to Hand Out Property Cards on December 27

Nagpur, Dec 25 (NationPress) Owners of residences located in inhabited regions across 30,515 villages from 30 districts in Maharashtra will be issued property cards as part of the prominent Survey of Villages and Mapping Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) scheme launched by the Central government.

At a press conference, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate virtually in the property card distribution event on December 27. The event will also see the attendance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, his deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with ministers from MahaYuti, across 30 districts.

Bawankule emphasized that property cards will only be given to property owners whose land is free from disputes.

He elaborated that the SVAMITVA scheme, which focuses on property surveying and mapping, aims to provide a ‘Record of Rights’ to homeowners in inhabited village areas, thereby granting them legal ownership rights through property cards or title deeds.

This initiative will empower rural households to leverage their property as a financial asset for acquiring loans and other financial benefits. Additionally, it will assist in assessing property taxes, increase the liquidity of land parcels, and enhance financial credit access for rural areas.

Bawankule noted that the initiative will contribute to the establishment of precise land records and significantly diminish property-related disputes. He added that possessing property cards will help reduce conflicts over property transfers.

Furthermore, according to Bawankule, property card holders, along with their Aadhaar cards, will be eligible for benefits under various Central and state government programs.

The minister also mentioned that drone surveys have commenced in urban areas, and property cards will be distributed following their completion.

The pilot phase of the SVAMITVA Scheme was launched on April 24, 2020, with implementation during 2020-21.

The national launch of the scheme took place on April 24, 2021. Implementation of the SVAMITVA Scheme is a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the State Revenue Department, the State Panchayati Raj Department, and the Survey of India (SoI).

States are required to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SoI for the scheme's implementation.

To date, 31 states/Union Territories have signed MoUs with SoI.
