Hyderabad, March 24 (NationPress) TV anchor and spokesperson for the YSR Congress Party, Syamala Reddy, appeared at the Hyderabad Police station on Monday regarding an investigation into betting applications.
She met with the investigating officer at the Panjagutta Police Station, where a recent case has been filed against multiple social media influencers accused of promoting betting applications.
Last week, she sought intervention from the Telangana High Court to dismiss the First Information Report (FIR) filed against her.
The court denied her request for relief but instructed the police not to detain her and mandated her presence at the police station.
Last week, actress Vishnu Priya and Ritu Chaudhary also reported to the police concerning this case.
They are among the social media influencers charged with allegedly endorsing betting applications and prompting individuals to engage in unlawful activities.
The police have dispatched notices to these influencers, instructing them to collaborate with the investigation.
The case was initiated on March 17 following a complaint from Vinay Vangala, a 40-year-old private employee, who expressed concerns about mobile applications and websites that are promoting gambling in violation of the Public Gambling Act of 1867.
The FIR lists individuals including Imran Khan, Harsha Sai, Tasty Teja, Kiran Goud, Vishnu Priya, Syamala, Rithu Chowdhary, Bandaru Sheshayani Supritha, Ajay, Sunny, and Sudheer, comprising various TV personalities and social media figures.
They face charges under sections 318 (4) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 3, 3 (A), and 4 of the Telangana Gaming Act, as well as 66D of the Information Technology Act 2008.
On March 16, the Cyberabad police initiated action against YouTuber Harsha Sai for promoting these betting applications.
This action was taken after a complaint was lodged by a person who reported a loss exceeding Rs 13 lakh due to betting.
Moreover, the Cyberabad police have filed cases against Tollywood actors including Rana Daggubati, Vijaya Devarakonda, Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi, Nidhi Agarwal, and others.
On March 20, a case was registered against six actors and 19 social media influencers at the Miyapur Police Station based on allegations that they are vigorously promoting illegal betting applications, websites, and other platforms.
