New Delhi, April 10 (NationPress) T Koshy, the founding Managing Director and CEO of the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), has resigned from his position.
An executive committee will now oversee the e-commerce platform moving forward. ONDC confirmed this change in a statement, announcing that the organisation is currently undergoing a leadership transition.
“ONDC has experienced significant growth in less than three years, exceeding 200 million transactions and making substantial progress towards its goal of democratizing e-commerce in India. As is common in any dynamic and evolving organisation, a leadership shift is currently in progress,” it stated.
The company mentioned that Koshy had expressed his intention to resign but will continue to provide support during the transition period.
He will remain available to the Board for the next three months in a consulting role. Meanwhile, the duties of the Managing Director and CEO have been transferred to the executive committee.
“The roles of MD and CEO have now been assigned to an executive committee, while Koshy will stay accessible to the Board in an advisory capacity for the next three months,” the statement added.
It further noted that ONDC continues to perform effectively and is making steady progress towards its key objectives.
Founded in 2021, ONDC is a government-supported initiative designed to enhance digital commerce's inclusivity and accessibility, particularly for smaller businesses.
It operates as a non-profit organisation (NGO) that offers a standardized platform for sellers, logistics providers, and payment gateway operators to voluntarily participate and deliver their services.
Recently, the government-backed firm reported that it has officially surpassed the 200 million transaction milestone, further solidifying its role as a transformative influence in India’s digital commerce sector.
According to the company, it took almost 20 months—from January 2023 to August 2024—to achieve the first 100 million transactions.
However, in just the last six months, ONDC has gained another 100 million transactions, indicating a rapid increase in adoption.
