Tamil Nadu Assembly Session Kicks Off Today, Governor Set to Speak

Chennai, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is poised to initiate its session on Monday. The length of this session will be established by the Business Advisory Committee, which is anticipated to convene later today.
Governor R.N. Ravi, known for his customary address that has sparked unprecedented discussions over the last two years, will deliver a speech during this session.
The invitation to the Governor was extended by Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, who visited him on Friday. This session will also mark the first interaction between the Governor and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin since their disagreement over the performance of Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu two months prior.
The opposition parties, namely the AIADMK and BJP, are expected to raise the recent case of a sexual assault involving a second-year engineering student on the Anna University campus during the session.
Moreover, the DMK ally CPI(M) is likely to express its grievances against the state police for not granting permission for protests.
Additionally, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), another ally of the DMK, has garnered attention after a statement from its former Deputy General Secretary, Aadhav Arjun, suggested that the DMK should include alliance partners in the cabinet.
This statement has incited significant controversy within the party. VCK founder and Member of Parliament Thol Thirumavalavan has refuted Aadhav Arjun's claims and subsequently suspended him from the party for six months.
Following this, Aadhav Arjun chose to resign from the party. The opposition, including AIADMK and BJP, has already brought this matter to light and is expected to address it during the session.
The deteriorating law and order situation in the state, along with alleged encounter killings by the Greater Chennai Police, will also be discussed.
It is worth mentioning that after the daylight murder of K. Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu BSP president, on July 5, the police reportedly engaged in encounters that resulted in the deaths of three history sheeters.
The opposition has criticized the state police for their inability to maintain law and order and has announced that they will tackle this issue in the Assembly.
Additionally, the frequent incidents in Tamil Nadu's firecracker industry, especially in Virudhunagar, are expected to be on the agenda. A recent explosion at a firecracker factory in Sattur, Virudhunagar resulted in the loss of six lives and injuries to approximately 30 individuals.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted inspections of several firecracker factories during his outreach visit in Virudhunagar district and instructed management to enhance safety measures. Notably, the annual revenue of the state's firecracker industry amounts to Rs 6,000 crore.
