Chennai, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Police have escalated their operations against TVK leaders in light of the violent incidents that occurred during party chief Vijay’s campaign on September 27 in Namakkal, alongside the tragic stampede at the Karur rally that resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals and left over 60 injured.

Two specialized police teams have been established and assigned under Inspector Kabilan to locate and apprehend N. Satish Kumar, the Namakkal district secretary of TVK, who has gone into hiding after facing charges of vandalism during Vijay’s campaign event.

According to police reports, a large assembly of TVK supporters and fans of Vijay gathered on September 27 to receive the actor-turned-politician, who officially launched TVK in October 2023.

During the chaos, certain supporters reportedly climbed onto the signboard of a private dental clinic, leading to its collapse and damaging glass walls and CCTV equipment. The hospital manager, Arichandran, filed a complaint at the Namakkal Town police station, prompting an FIR against Satish Kumar and other party officials.

Satish attempted to obtain anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court, but his request was denied, prompting him to go into hiding.

The two special teams are currently engaged in an extensive manhunt across Namakkal and surrounding districts and are reportedly “closing in” on his whereabouts.

Notably, TVK Karur district secretary Mathiyazhagan has already been detained and remanded to judicial custody due to his alleged failure to implement safety protocols and manage the crowd during Vijay’s rally on September 27.

This rally was one of TVK’s most significant events since Vijay’s political debut last October, but it ended in tragedy when panic at an overcrowded exit led to a fatal crush, resulting in 41 deaths and over 60 injuries.

The arrest of Mathiyazhagan is viewed as a crucial step towards accountability for this catastrophe.

Additionally, police have formed extra special units to apprehend senior TVK leaders Bussy Anand, the party’s state general secretary, and C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, its joint general secretary, who are also implicated in the Karur incident.

Following a directive from the Madras High Court, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the Karur disaster and to determine responsibility at all levels.

“Two dedicated teams are relentlessly pursuing Satish Kumar, and more arrests are anticipated. Public safety must remain paramount during political events,” stated a senior officer.

This crackdown represents the most significant law enforcement action since Vijay’s entry into politics and indicates increased scrutiny of large TVK gatherings as the 2026 Assembly elections approach.
