Chennai, Oct 4 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Police have escalated their efforts to locate and apprehend N. Satish Kumar, the Namakkal district secretary of actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), after he mysteriously vanished following the rejection of his anticipatory bail petition, officials reported on Saturday.
Two special teams have been established under the direction of Inspector Kabilan to track down the absconding TVK official, as per official sources.
This development comes after the Madras High Court denied anticipatory bail to Satish Kumar for his involvement in a case concerning the alleged assault on a private hospital in Namakkal.
The incident is said to have taken place during a campaign by TVK leader Vijay in the district ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections next year.
Satish Kumar sought the court's intervention to safeguard him from arrest.
During the proceedings, his attorney, advocate A. Murugavel, claimed that his client was being wrongly accused for political motives.
"The petitioner has not committed any crime. The case was filed solely because he happened to be present at the location when the incident occurred," Murugavel further stated.
However, the prosecution firmly opposed the petition, presenting evidence of the damages incurred during the incident.
The police's counsel indicated that TVK supporters had caused damage to hospital property amounting to Rs 5 lakh during the unrest.
Additionally, they pointed out that eight other criminal cases were already pending against Satish Kumar, including charges related to the destruction of public property.
Photographic evidence from the scene was also submitted by the police to support their claims.
Upon reviewing the images, Justice N. Senthilkumar remarked that as a district-level TVK leader, Satish Kumar could not evade responsibility for the violent actions of his party members.
"If party members were involved in such acts, how can the petitioner claim ignorance? Shouldn't he have exercised control over them?" the judge questioned before dismissing the anticipatory bail request.
Following the court's ruling, the Namakkal police have intensified their operations to find Satish Kumar, who has reportedly been untraceable since the verdict.
Officials stated that both teams are actively pursuing leads and searching potential hideouts.
This initiative is perceived as part of a wider crackdown on political violence and property damage during electoral campaigns.
Authorities have indicated that if Satish Kumar does not surrender, further legal actions, including issuing a lookout notice, may ensue.
The police have urged the public to confidentially report any information regarding his whereabouts.
