Key Takeaways
Chennai, Feb 18 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan delivered a scathing critique of the ruling DMK, questioning its moral authority to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding his international diplomacy while allegedly struggling to maintain unity within its own coalition in Tamil Nadu.
During her address to journalists at the Chennai airport, Tamilisai accused the DMK of exhibiting double standards.
"They question the Prime Minister’s ability to manage relations with US President Donald Trump. Yet, can they keep Congress MP Manickam Tagore in check within their own alliance?" she queried.
"They have not even managed to form a committee for alliance discussions, while the Prime Minister is busy assembling committees and engaging with various nations," she asserted.
Her comments arrive amid rising political tensions between the BJP and the DMK over issues of foreign policy and the relationship between the Centre and the states.
Referring to the State's Interim Budget for 2026–27, Tamilisai criticized the document as lacking depth, alleging that the DMK government was merely using it as a means to attack the Union government.
"There is no justification for targeting the Centre through the Budget. The Union government has earmarked Rs 11 lakh crore for infrastructure development nationwide.
In contrast, the allocation for Tamil Nadu is significantly lower," she noted.
She further stated that the Budget fell short of addressing critical needs within the farming community.
"No announcement was made regarding Rs 3,200 per quintal for paddy, nor an assurance of Rs 4,000 per quintal for sugarcane. Additionally, no commitment was made concerning farm loan waivers," she highlighted.
According to Tamilisai, the Budget did not propose any tangible development initiatives that would directly benefit the populace.
"This budget will not benefit Tamil Nadu," she declared.
In anticipation of the 2026 Assembly elections, she mentioned that the BJP's manifesto committee would soon visit the delta districts to consult with farmers and understand their issues.
"We will transparently integrate their concerns into our manifesto," she added.
Accusing the ruling alliance of increasing discontent, Tamilisai claimed that even the DMK's partners are losing faith in the government, indicating what she described as emerging fractures in the coalition.
