Income Tax Department Advises Taxpayers to Disregard Erroneous Emails About Significant Transactions

On the social media platform X, the tax authority noted that it had received feedback from taxpayers regarding the inaccuracies in these emails and has acknowledged the mistake.
"Reports indicate that some taxpayers have received emails with incorrect details about 'significant transactions' they engaged in as part of the ongoing Advance Tax e-Campaign for AY 2026–27 (Financial Year 2025–26)," stated the Department.
The Department expressed gratitude to taxpayers for highlighting the issue and extended its apologies for any inconvenience it may have caused.
Officials confirmed that they are working closely with the service provider responsible for the communication system to address the situation.
"We are diligently working to rectify this issue in collaboration with our service provider. Until then, we kindly request taxpayers to ignore any previous email communications regarding the Advance Tax e-Campaign for AY 2026–27," the post elaborated.
The Income Tax Department clarified that these communications are intended as helpful reminders for taxpayers to evaluate their financial information on the Compliance Portal and ensure they meet their advance tax obligations when necessary.
Taxpayers are encouraged to check their transaction information via the e-Campaign tab on the Compliance Portal, accessible through the Income Tax e-Filing platform.
The department has also appealed for taxpayers’ understanding and support while the matter is being resolved.
As of January, the Central government's net direct tax collections reached Rs 18.37 lakh crore between April 1 and January 11 of the current financial year (2025-26), according to information released by the Income Tax Department. This figure reflects an 8.82 percent increase compared to direct tax collections during the same timeframe last year.
