Sreekutty endured significant head and spinal injuries following her fall from the Kerala Express on Sunday night.
She is presently receiving care in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is reliant on ventilator support.
Upon the directive of State Health Minister Veena George, a comprehensive team of specialists, including neurosurgeons, is vigilantly overseeing her condition.
“She has experienced head trauma and brain contusions. Although she is receiving top-notch medical attention, her health remains critical,” stated Medical College Superintendent Dr. Jayachandran.
He emphasized that the hospital is committed to delivering the highest standard of care in light of concerns voiced by the victim’s family regarding the quality of treatment.
The suspect, identified as Suresh Kumar from Panachamoodu in Thiruvananthapuram district, has been arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder.
He has been presented before a magistrate and is currently in judicial custody.
Authorities reported that Kumar, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
The incident transpired while the victim, travelling from Aluva to Thiruvananthapuram, had gone to the restroom.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), a dispute erupted between the two after she supposedly refused to step aside from the doorway.
In a fit of rage, the accused pushed her from behind, resulting in her falling off the moving train close to Varkala station.
Sreekutty, also known as Sona, was subsequently discovered in a critical condition and rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing, with police looking into the incident that has ignited widespread outrage and renewed calls for enhanced security measures for female passengers on trains.
