Hyderabad, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, announced on Wednesday a groundbreaking initiative to elevate Osmania University (OU) to a world-class institution by unveiling a comprehensive development plan worth Rs 1,000 crore.
During a meeting at the historic Arts College building on campus, Revanth Reddy expressed his commitment to transforming OU into an internationally recognized university.
In a move to facilitate this transformation, the government previously issued an order granting administrative sanction of Rs 1,000 crore specifically for infrastructure enhancements across the Osmania University campus.
A draft master plan outlining the university's development was also introduced. The Chief Minister revealed a special QR code for students to provide their feedback and suggestions regarding the proposed master plan and designs.
New infrastructure projects include roads, cycling tracks, a sports complex, a library, a gym, entry gates, Osmania Plaza, a memorial, a convention center, an amphitheater, an academic research center, student commons and learning greens, a hostel zone, a multipurpose hall, a dining center, a health center, and various other facilities across the expansive campus.
OU has ensured that the final master plan and designs will be shaped by the feedback and suggestions from students.
In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted Telangana's rich history, noting that Osmania University played a pivotal role in advocating for the establishment of a separate state for Telangana.
He acknowledged the notable figures produced by Osmania University, including P.V. Narasimha Rao, Jaipal Reddy, George Reddy, and Gaddar.
Revanth Reddy recalled that Osmania University was at the forefront of the Telangana movement during its second phase, alleging that the previous BRS government diminished its stature for a decade.
Asserting that the people of Telangana yearned for freedom, social justice, and equal opportunities, he claimed these aspirations were fulfilled after Congress took power two years ago.
He stated his purpose for visiting the campus was to gauge whether these aspirations had been met.
"Some questioned my courage to visit Osmania University. What I need is not courage but admiration. I come here with admiration to pave the way for the university's development," he expressed.
The Chief Minister enumerated the initiatives undertaken by his government, including the official recognition of "Telangana Thalli" (Mother Telangana), declaring 'Jaya Jayahe Telangana' as the official state anthem, and conducting a caste census alongside the sub-classification of Scheduled Castes to promote social justice.
He emphasized that education is the key to overcoming backwardness, asserting that while lack of land may indicate poverty, a lack of education signifies backwardness.
Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring quality education for everyone, stating, "Education alone has the power to transform our destiny and illuminate our lives."
He mentioned the establishment of integrated residential schools aimed at dismantling caste barriers and discrimination, and the inception of Young India Skills University to enhance the skills of the youth, with Anand Mahindra as its Chairperson.
He also announced the creation of Young India Sports University to train athletes for the 2036 Olympics, with renowned sports figures like Abhinav Bindra and Kapil Dev appointed to the board of directors.
"Those with wealth attend international universities. My aspiration is to uplift Osmania University to international standards for the underprivileged," he stated.
Coming from a humble background and having attended a government school, Revanth Reddy remarked that while he may not speak fluent English, he understands the struggles of the poor.
He reassured students that language should not be a barrier, stating, "English is merely a means of communication. Many successful countries do not speak English but are leading the world."
"Young brothers, do not fret if you lack English proficiency. It is not a hindrance. Am I not managing the state?"
