Hyderabad, March 10 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh for the family of Gurpreet Singh, whose remains were discovered in the partially collapsed SLBC tunnel located in Nagarkurnool district on Sunday.
CM Revanth Reddy, along with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, extended their heartfelt condolences regarding the tragic passing of the worker involved in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel project.
The rescue teams identified the remains recovered from the tunnel as belonging to Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Punjab, who was one of eight workers trapped when a roof section collapsed on February 22.
Singh was employed as a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operator with the American firm Robbins.
Expressing deep sympathies to his grieving family, the Chief Minister confirmed the ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh. Gurpreet’s remains have been sent back to his hometown in Punjab.
On the 16th day of rescue operations, workers recovered Singh's body after specially trained cadaver dogs from Kerala indicated a location under the debris.
The dogs pinpointed human presence at the D-2 point, approximately 100 meters from the accident site, in the concluding stretch of the 14-km-long tunnel.
Rescue teams meticulously excavated the silt at the identified area and uncovered the body on Sunday evening.
Efforts to locate the remaining seven missing individuals in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project tunnel are ongoing.
The trapped workers include four laborers, two engineers, and two machine operators from Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, who were caught during the tunnel's roof collapse on February 22.
