Hyderabad, Sep 24 (NationPress) The Telangana High Court has temporarily suspended an order from the Telangana government that permitted special benefit shows and increased ticket prices for Pawan Kalyan's much-anticipated film "OG".
The court issued an interim ruling in response to a petition that contested the memo released by the Home Department.
Justice N. V. Shravan Kumar, presiding over a single-judge bench, has postponed the hearing until October 9.
The premiere of "They Call Him OG", featuring the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan, is set to commence at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
This film is scheduled for a worldwide release on September 25.
Following a request from producer D.V.V. Danayya, the Telangana government had issued an order raising ticket prices for "OG" to assist producers in recouping their extensive production expenses.
According to the Government Order (GO), a special show was authorized on September 24, with tickets priced at Rs 800 (inclusive of GST). The earlier order from September 19 also sanctioned a hike in ticket prices for a temporary duration from September 25 to October 4, 2025.
The revised prices in single-screen theatres would be Rs 277 per ticket (up from Rs 177), while multiplex tickets would be Rs 445 each (standard Rs 295).
The petitioner contended that the Special Chief Secretary lacked the authority to issue such an order. The petitioner's attorney informed the court that only the Police Commissioner has the jurisdiction to issue such memos within Hyderabad, while Joint Collectors are empowered in the districts.
Furthermore, the petitioner's counsel highlighted that there are regulations limiting cinema ticket prices to those already established. It was noted in the court that the Home Department had provided an undertaking regarding this during the release of "Game Changer".
After considering the arguments, the court decided to suspend the government order.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has authorized benefit shows starting at 1 a.m. on September 25, with ticket prices set at Rs 1,000 including GST. For the following ten days, single screens in Andhra Pradesh can charge an additional Rs 125 and multiplexes Rs 150 above existing rates.
"OG", directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Entertainment, is highly anticipated by Pawan Kalyan's fans. The excitement surrounding the release has captivated audiences in both Telugu states.
In a remarkable display of fandom, a devotee purchased a benefit show ticket for the film, titled "They Call Him OG", for an astonishing Rs 1,29,999 at an auction held in Srinivasa Theatre, Choutuppal, located in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana.
Amanula Paramesh, a resident of Lakkaram village in Choutupalli mandal, acquired the ticket at such a considerable price to express his admiration for the star.
Fans enthusiastically engaged in the auction for the benefit show set for 1 a.m. on September 25. The funds raised through this auction will be donated to the Jana Sena Party (JSP) led by Pawan Kalyan.
