Telangana: Jail Warden Dismissed for Escorting Farmer to Hospital in Shackles

Hyderabad, Dec 13 (NationPress) The Telangana government has dismissed Sanjeeva Reddy, the Superintendent of Sangareddy Central Jail, for escorting a farmer to a hospital while shackled.
This decision came after an investigation was conducted following the orders of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
The inquiry was led by Inspector General of Police Satyanarayana, who, along with the Sangareddy district Superintendent of Police, examined the situation within the jail.
During the four-hour questioning of jail personnel, it was revealed that the authorities had unjustly handcuffed Heerya Naik while transporting him to a hospital in Sangareddy due to chest pain complaints.
Moreover, the investigation uncovered that the jail officials failed to notify the Vikarabad district police and instead informed the Cyberabad police.
The IG clarified that Naik was not involved in the case concerning the assault on officials during a public hearing related to land acquisition for a pharmaceutical project in Lagacharla village of Vikarabad district. He mentioned that Naik was implicated in a different case registered in Balanagar.
Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed his discontent regarding the incident and mandated an investigation.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he questioned officials about the incident and conveyed his frustration over the necessity of handcuffing a farmer.
He instructed senior officials to conduct a thorough inquiry and submit a detailed report. He cautioned that the people’s government would not stand for such actions.
The farmer was taken to the hospital after reporting chest pain and was subsequently transferred to a medical facility in Hyderabad.
The working president of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) also condemned the act of handcuffing the farmer.
“It is utterly heartless, insensitive, and shameful on the part of the Telangana Government. You handcuff a farmer who has suffered a stroke. Farmers in Lagacharla have been imprisoned for more than a month now, simply because they refused to comply with the Revanth Government's demands to relinquish their agricultural land,” Rama Rao stated in a post on ‘X’.
