Telangana Police Apprehend Ambulance Thief Following Intense Highway Pursuit

Hyderabad, Dec 7 (NationPress) Telangana Police apprehended an ambulance thief following an intense pursuit on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway on Saturday.
The suspect hijacked a 108 ambulance in Hayatnagar, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, and transformed it into a getaway vehicle.
Law enforcement managed to catch the thief after a thrilling chase that lasted over 100 kilometers, establishing blockades with lorries near Suryapet.
Prompted by the ambulance driver after the vehicle was stolen, police units commenced the pursuit, which quickly escalated into a cinematic-style escapade as the thief sped away in the siren-blaring ambulance towards Vijayawada.
Navigating through traffic on the highway, the perpetrator outpaced the police officers, causing mayhem on the bustling roadway.
As reported by the police, the ambulance struck an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police when he attempted to halt the vehicle at Chityala. The ASI, identified as Jana Reddy, sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to a private hospital in Hyderabad.
Despite colliding with the police officer, the thief continued to drive the ambulance at high speed and crashed into a gate at the Korlapahad toll gate in Kethepalli Mandal.
Notified by their colleagues via phone, police officers stationed at Tekumatla in Suryapet Mandal set up a blockade using lorries. Upon spotting the blockade, the thief attempted to maneuver the vehicle away but lost control, veering off the road and crashing into bushes. Police personnel swiftly apprehended the suspect.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the thief has a criminal background, having been involved in theft cases across various police jurisdictions.
The police took the suspect into custody and began questioning him to determine his motives.
Additionally, an investigation was initiated regarding the prior cases lodged against him.
While there have been instances of thieves escaping with Road Transport Corporation buses in the past, this incident marks perhaps the first known case recently in which an ambulance was hijacked.
