Hyderabad, May 20 (NationPress) The Telangana Police has achieved the remarkable distinction of being the top-ranking force in the nation for recovering stolen and missing mobile phones through the use of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.
By leveraging the CEIR, developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the state police have successfully retrieved 78,114 stolen or missing devices.
Dr. Jitender, the Director General of Police for Telangana, extended his congratulations to Shikha Goel, the DG of CID, and her team for this significant accomplishment.
The CID Telangana is the primary agency responsible for executing the CEIR in the state, which is now fully operational across all 780 police stations.
Initially launched as a pilot in states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, and the northeast on September 5, 2022, the CEIR portal became available in Telangana on April 19, 2023 — a mere 227 days after its pilot launch.
Despite the delayed rollout, Telangana has risen to be recognized as the 'Top-Performing' state in the nation for the recovery of lost or stolen mobile devices, as noted by Goel.
According to the CEIR dashboard, as of May 19, 2025, Telangana leads the country with the recovery of 78,114 mobile devices. The IPS officer mentioned that this stellar performance has established a national standard for mobile device recovery.
In Hyderabad, the highest recovery rate was recorded with 11,879 devices. Additionally, 10,385 devices were retrieved in the Cyberabad Commissionerate and 8,681 in the Rachakonda Commissionerate.
Goel emphasized that this achievement was made possible by the dedicated efforts of field officers. Every unit has been actively engaged in ensuring timely responses to reported cases via the CEIR portal. Their efforts include consistently filing cases, monitoring reports daily, reaching out to those in possession of lost or stolen phones, and facilitating the return of these devices to their rightful owners.
In collaboration with the DoT, the Telangana Police has integrated the CEIR portal with the TG Police Citizen Portal. Citizens can report lost or stolen devices via the TG Police Citizen Portal at www.tspolice.gov.in or directly at www.ceir.gov.in.
This CEIR portal has proven to be an invaluable resource for citizens who have lost their mobile devices, with numerous positive testimonials confirming its effectiveness in facilitating recoveries, she stated.
