Hyderabad, July 7 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, the police in Vikrabad, Telangana, have initiated legal proceedings against a resort following a tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of two women tourists from Bihar.
The police have filed charges against the Wilderness Lakefront Resort for the negligence that led to the deaths of Ritu Kumari, 52, and Poonam Singh, 53, after their boat capsized on Saturday.
Authorities stated on Monday that a case was lodged under Section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation has commenced.
Both women, hailing from Patna, tragically drowned in Sarpanpally Lake when their boat was struck by a sudden downpour and fierce winds.
Along with their granddaughters, Inshika, aged 3.5 years, and Ivanshi, aged 1.5 years, the two women had ventured out for a boat ride accompanied by a boat operator.
Unfortunately, the weather conditions worsened shortly after they set sail, resulting in the boat overturning and ejecting all passengers into the water.
While the two young girls were rescued by other family members, both Ritu Kumari and Poonam Singh lost consciousness. Despite immediate CPR efforts, they were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
A relative, Alok Kumar, who attempted to rescue the women, sustained injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital in Vikarabad.
The family, who were visiting Hyderabad for a holiday, experienced a devastating turn of events.
Family members accused the resort of failing to implement necessary safety measures, prompting police to investigate.
Local leaders from the CPI-M organized a protest, demanding compensation for the victims' families and calling for criminal charges against those responsible for the incident.
They urged the government to seize the boat and pursue legal action against the resort.
BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy visited the site and revealed that the boat was being operated illegally on land not designated for such activities.
Reddy emphasized that the boat was operating without the required permissions from various departments, including Irrigation, Tourism, Revenue, and Police.
“There were no trained lifeguards present. The resort has constructed unsafe floating accommodations on drums and pontoons and rented them out to guests. Immediate investigations and cessation of all such illegal operations in Vikarabad are imperative,” Reddy stated on X.
