This unfortunate event took place in Venkatapur village, situated in Yellareddy mandal of the district, approximately 140 km from Hyderabad, on Saturday afternoon but was only reported on Sunday.
As per police reports, the tragedy unfolded when the mother was washing clothes in a well, and her three children ventured into the water for a bath.
The children began to drown after stepping into a deep area of the lake. Upon noticing this, the mother attempted to rescue them, but tragically, she too succumbed to the waters.
The victims have been identified as Mounika, 26, along with her three children - Maithili, 10, Akshara, 8, and Vinay, 7.
Maithili and Akshara were enrolled in Classes 6 and 5, respectively, while Vinay was in Class 3.
Initially, there were suspicions regarding the possibility of the woman having committed suicide by throwing her children into the lake. However, a preliminary police investigation clarified that Mounika had taken her children to the lake to wash clothes. Their clothes, which were left at the water's edge, were found intact.
Mounika’s husband, Linagaiah, a daily wage laborer, was away at work during the incident. Upon returning home and finding them missing, he inquired with neighbors and discovered they had gone to the lake. He rushed there only to find their clothes abandoned by the water.
Linagaiah, along with local villagers, searched for them but to no avail. Sadly, their bodies were discovered floating on the lake the next morning.
Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene and retrieved the bodies.
The authorities have sent the bodies for autopsy and have initiated an investigation. The incident has cast a shadow of sorrow over Venkatapur village.
