Assistant Superintendent of Police Chaitanya Reddy disclosed the case details at a press conference on Sunday.
She stated that the children’s parents reported them missing at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, claiming they hadn’t seen them since 10 a.m.
Police organized five teams to search for the missing girls in nearby areas and circulated their photographs on social media.
The ASP explained that Ismail had told police he took his daughters to a hotel for breakfast but his conflicting accounts sparked suspicions.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage and phone records, police interrogated him again, leading to his admission of guilt. He guided officers to Peddacheruvu Lake, where a scarf belonging to one of the girls was found. Swimmers were dispatched to recover the bodies.
Ismail’s wife, Shabeena, is a laborer and was at work when the tragic event occurred.
During questioning, Ismail revealed that he faced severe financial hardships, having accrued debts exceeding Rs 5 lakh.
The police plan to request his custody for further questioning.
