Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Jan 12 (NationPress) The Telangana Police have initiated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine two cases involving alleged defamatory and obscene content aimed at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, a minister, and a woman IAS officer.
The eight-member SIT will be led by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
The Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy has formed the SIT to look into the case against one Kavali Venkatesh, who reportedly posted a morphed image of the Chief Minister, as well as another case linked to various television channels and social media platforms for disseminating misleading information about a minister and an IAS officer.
The case related to the Chief Minister was filed in Narayanpet district, while the other was lodged at the Central Crime Station (CCS) in Hyderabad.
Members of the SIT include North Range Joint Commissioner of Police Shwetha, Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam, Hyderabad Admin DCP Venkata Lakshmi, Cyber Crime DCP Aravind Babu, Vigilance Additional SP Pratap, CCS ACP Guru Raghavendra, Cyber Cell CI Shankar Reddy, and Counter Intelligence Cell SI Harish.
A case was filed against Venkatesh for allegedly altering the photograph of the Chief Minister and sharing it on a WhatsApp group named Telangana Public TV. The police initiated action following a complaint from Congress leader Gulla Narasimha on Monday.
Additionally, the CCS has pursued another case against NTV, T News, and several other news outlets, along with YouTube channels and social media platforms for allegedly broadcasting false information about a minister and a woman IAS officer.
This case was initiated based on a complaint made by Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan on behalf of the IAS Officers’ Association.
According to Jayesh Ranjan, who serves as the Secretary of the Telangana IAS Officers’ Association, NTV aired a news segment on January 8 regarding a woman IAS officer that was “entirely false, fabricated, and baseless.”
The complainant indicated that unverified accusations were directed at a current woman IAS officer, implying an alleged personal connection with a political figure and attempting to associate her official assignments with such unfounded claims.
The derogatory insinuations regarding the officer’s assignments, where it was incorrectly suggested that she received “comfort postings” in a short span of time, not only misrepresented established administrative protocols but also aimed to undermine the integrity of civil services and the constitutional framework governing postings and transfers, as highlighted by the complainant.
The police have filed the case under Sections 75, 78, 79, 351(1), and 352(2) of the BNS and have commenced investigations.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy expressed distress over reports insinuating his involvement, stating that following the tragic loss of his son in a road accident, character assassination is profoundly painful.
